Get Started Today! Come into Studio Fitness for a complimentary Functional Movement Systems screening.

The Functional Movement Screen (FMS) is derived from an exercise philosophy known as Functional Movement Systems. This exercise philosophy and corresponding assessment tool is based on health science, years of innovation, and current research.

FMS is a ranking and scoring system that documents movement patterns that are key to normal physical function. Rankings identify functional limitations and asymmetries. Identifying your physical capabilities and limitations aids your personal trainer in targeting issues that can reduce the effects of functional training and physical conditioning.  Training professionals monitor the FMS score to track progress and identify exercises that will be most effective in restoring proper movement and building strength in each individual.

There are several types of movements that can be included in a Functional Movement Screen:

•    Deep Squat
•    Hurdle Step
•    Inline Lunge
•    Shoulder Mobility
•    Shoulder Clearing (Active Scapular Stability)
•    Active Straight-Leg Raise
•    Trunk Stability Pushup
•    Spinal Extension Clearing
•    Rotary Stability

Your Studio Fitness trainer will guide you through each movement providing instructions on how to complete each one correctly. Each movement can be performed up to three times if necessary for your trainer to record an accurate score. After the screening has been completed your trainer will be able to design a training program unique to your specific needs. FMS enables you and your trainer to become more aware of your body’s abilities and limitations ensuring that your new training program will promote the restoration of proper movement and strengthening.

A big thank you to Jim Floyd, my trainer for a decade, for convincing me that just because I can, doesn't mean I should bench press 400 lbs. Ego and 57-year-old joints don't always get along! If you're in the Rockwall, Texas area and don't use Studio Fitness Rockwall, you are using a second class gym. - Brad Boeke

I have to thank Jim Floyd for keeping me in such good shape! All day we have been descending into tunnels and uncovered ruins to see the discoveries of Bible times! I feel great. - Virginia Hodge
