You may or may not have heard about the new research showing that a mere 30-60 minutes of running a week-even in bursts of 5 -10 minutes a day can add three years to your life. But here is the less-reported yet equally incredible part: “any vigorous exercise-such as cycling, swimming, or even lifting weights would provide a similar benefit because the heart doesn’t know the difference! It’s not about the run…it’s all about the heart according to a study reported in the Journal of American College of Cardiology. Yes, just 5-10 minutes a day of any vigorous activity can yield huge benefits. By vigorous, we mean you need to be working at 60-84% of your max heart rate(formula is 220 minus your age). Think about it, 3 more years just by exercising 5-10 minutes a day! 3 more of your children’s or your grandchildren’s birthdays or maybe just think of the quality of life that you will have just by being healthier! Of course working out longer is better -but if you are just trying to get started or having a hard time fitting it into your busy schedule then 5-10 minutes is a great place to start!!
