What to Expect from Personal Training at Studio Fitness

 Is getting fit your goal for 2015? Working with a personal trainer is one of the best ways to achieve your goals.

A personal trainer will work with you to develop a specific workout plan to help you meet your fitness goals. Your trainer will also provide accountability, encouragement, and motivation to keep you moving forward on your journey to fitness.

The thought of working with a professional fitness trainer can be intimidating, but don’t let your fear of the unknown hold you back. We want you to be fully prepared for your first personal training session. If you are considering working with a personal trainer at Studio Fitness, here’s what to expect from personal training.

Before your first personal training session, you and your trainer will discuss your personal fitness goals from which your trainer will develop a training program tailored to your current fitness level and goals. Throughout your training program, your trainer will periodically assess your progress through fitness assessments.

At the start of your training session, your trainer will give you instruction for your warm-up to prepare your body for the workout ahead. This might be as simple as walking on a treadmill or as in depth as trainer-assisted foam rolling, followed by a series of dynamic warm-up exercises.

Your warm-up for the day depends on what your trainer has in store, or what your personalized fitness program calls for.

After the warm-up, your personal trainer will guide you through a series of exercises that are written specifically to help you progress from your current fitness capabilities to your desired goal.

A sample series of exercises may look like one of the following:

Series 1 – Muscle Growth and Endurance

A1) 12 reps — Dumbbell Chest Press

A2) 12 reps — Standing Dumbbell Biceps Curls

Exercises A1) are to be followed by A2). Rest only as needed between sets, completing three sets of each. Rest 90 seconds between groups.

B1) 12 reps — Barbell Incline Chest Press

B2) 12 reps — Standing Barbell Biceps Curls

Exercises B1) are to be followed by B2). Rest only as needed between sets, completing three sets of each.

If your focus is more on balance and core strength than muscle growth and endurance, your workout may look as follows:

Series 2- Balance and Core Strength

A1) 10 reps per side — Single Leg Reach and Touch (Stork Stance)

A2) 8 reps — Walkout Pushups

A3) 30 reps — Mountain Climbers

All exercises are to be done in order; three sets each. Rest as needed to perform the movements correctly.

B1) 10 reps per side — Single Arm/Single Leg Over Head

B2) 10 reps per side — Pushup Position Single Arm Rows (Renegade Rows)

B3) 10 reps — Glute Bridges

All exercises are to be done in order; three sets each. Rest as needed to perform the movements correctly.

Following your workout, your personal trainer will help you stretch. This may be done on the stretching table, or your trainer may have you follow a stretching routine on your own. Stretching is an important part of your fitness program. How you complete this phase of your personal training session depends on your capabilities.

Finally, your trainer will assign you a prescribed amount of cardio/aerobic exercise to complete each day outside of your personal training sessions.
